Waimea Canyon

Hawaii is full of amazing and undeveloped areas that unbelievable. And Waimea Canyon has to be one of the top natural sights on the island of Kaua'i. Known as the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific," its large and beautiful canyon faces are located on the western side of Kaua'i - spanning about 10 miles long and up to 3,000 feet deep. But what really makes it unique is the geological significance. The canyon was created not only from years and years of erosion, but also from the collapse of the volcano that created the whole island of Kaua'i. What results is Waimea, a name that literally means "reddish water" in Hawaiian - a reference to the canyon's reddish soil that has been eroded over the years.

The canyon is easily accessible by car and provides great scenic views and picturesque family photos. Best of all, its free! It can get a bit chilly, so we suggest bringing a light jacket or sweater. The canyon is also a great place for walking and hiking trails accommodating not only a beginner hiker, but also highly experienced trailblazers.
