If you are interested in hiking, we can arrange the best hike in the crater area for your level, or just move from crater to crater by vehicle. If you are coming off the Pride of America or any cruise that arrives in Hilo, we can arrange in advance for meals. Extreme Lava Hike to See Flowing Lava
This is a fully guided small group hike to see the entry of lava into the ocean and possibly liquid flowing lava up close and personal.
This tour is not for the faint of heart and involves extensive hiking 4.5 miles in and 4.5 miles out. But it is definitely your best chance to see lava flowing and lava breakouts from Pu'u O'o vent on Kilaueau crater. The narrated tour also includes Saddle Road, Mauna Kea State Park, the 1984 lava flow from Mauna Loa, Hilo highlights and Rainbow Falls. Experience lava flows into Pahoa (2014), Kaimu Black Sand Beach, and Kalapana. Hikeapproximately 10 miles, mostly along coastal evacuation roads to see the lava flows, then up across very recent lava to look for potential breakouts of flowing lava with your experienced guide where a picnic style dinner on the lava is included.
